About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all all-encompassing," the group was determined to explore every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand all over the world.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It's a change from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begins an extensive tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa during a recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all of Toto's original members were performing at the same time. Following this, the group disbanded once again. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in over 31 year that all of Toto's founding members performed together. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto has remained one of the most popular rock bands for over three decades, scoring massive hits such as "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X platinum smash, "Africa." The group's anthemic arena-rock is inspired by a variety of styles, including progressive rock, world rhythms, jazz, and soul.
The band experienced several setbacks during their later years, despite their popularity. In 2002, drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence for health reasons. Shem von Schröeck took over however, the group wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take the time off from touring due to a string lineup changes and a disappointing series of releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 after the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to the band's top form and the tour that accompanied it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
